Learning

I know that continuing my own education will be a great asset to me and my family. I knew this before I went to a leadership education conference this past weekend. But what really hit home for me was that I can't put it off.

I love this quote, that I heard for the first time this past weekend, by Mortimer Adler:

"Whoever passes by what is over his head condemns his head to its present low altitude; for nothing can elevate a mind except what is over its head; and that elevation is not accomplished by capillary attraction, but only by the hard work of climbing up the ropes, with sore hands and aching muscles."

It seems that I give up on learning things because I feel that they're beyond my understanding. I feel like hearing this quote was the motivation I needed to study and learn beyond what I think my capacity is. For example, I have a basic knowledge of what my husband's job entails (Finite Element Analysis) - but I think if I tried, I could get a better idea of how he spends his time at work!

Jason and I had a great time this weekend. The kids had a great time with their grandparents, and the grandparents said that they had a great time with the kids. I actually had uninterrupted time with my husband - it was just what we all needed before the baby comes!

What a great quote!

Funny you mention Jason's job. Just last night, I was sitting with Ryan as he was finishing up some work on his computer and I was looking at what he does most days at work. Then I wondered if I could ever do stuff like that. Then I felt overwhelmed. But it is was nice to see.

So glad you had a good weekend.

I've tried to figure out what Brett does. Every time that I think I get it and explain it aloud, I find out that I'm wrong. Oh well. I keep trying. I agree with you. I don't want to be the wife that doesn't have a clue what her husband does all day.
