The Duck House

This is Sol-leks, he used to be our little yellow duckie. Now he's not so little and he's ready for a new home! Sophie's nice and big too - but didn't want to pose for a picture.
We picked up an old dog house (free on Craig'slist) and Jason got the roof off and added some hinges to make it easier to clean out. Thanks be to Curtis for holding the roof in place!
Joshua was helping prep for the hinges with his new hand drill.
I finished painting the duck house last night. Now we just need to attach a door and hopefully they'll sleep outside tonight!

It looks amazing! No wonder we can't get you on the phone, you're too busy decorating the acreage!!

Very cool.

How do you keep predators out--even neighborhood dogs and cats will try to catch a duck, right? At least, that's how it is with chickens...

We've got our fingers crossed that they'll be okay. They have a full door and the duck house has a floor so I don't think anything can get in. We worry mostly about raccoons, coyotes and bald eagles. We have lost quite a few chickens so far from various things (we think they came sick), but the kids are more attached to the ducks and because there are only two of them it would be hard to lose them.

Love the colors and the cool idea with the hinges.
